Paused complaints lodged by bankrupt complainants

In August 2023, AFCA temporarily paused complaints lodged by bankrupt or former bankrupt consumers pending the outcome of a Court proceeding. This is because implications of the judgement may change how we approach these complaints.

Changes to AFCA’s fees and charges in FY25

AFCA has published its FY25 fees and charges, including its Annual Registration Fee and complaint and systemic issues fees. These fees apply to complaints closed from 1 July 2024.

Material changes to AFCA scheme approved by ASIC

ASIC has formally approved material changes to the AFCA scheme following the consultation on changes to AFCA’s Rules and Operational Guidelines in 2023. AFCA has now published its Consultation Response outlining how it responded to formal submissions and stakeholder feedback. All non-confidential submissions were published in 2023.
January complaints update
28 February 2024
Complainants lodged 9,562 complaints with AFCA in January 2024, up 29% from January 2023 (7,420). In FY24 to date we have received 61,056 complaints, which is up 15% on the same period in FY23 (53,017). Banking and finance complaints (excluding financial difficulty) were up 38% year-on-year, while complaints involving financial difficulty were up by 36%.
