The Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) today announced the appointment of outgoing ACCC Deputy Chair Ms Delia Rickard to its board. Her appointment, for three years, is effective from 1 August 2022.

Australians in dispute with banks, insurers, super funds, investment firms and financial advisers lodged 72,358 complaints with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) in the past 12 months, a rise of 3 per cent on the previous financial year.

AFCA has activated its significant event response plan following the New South Wales Storms and Floods being declared a significant event on 5 July 2022 by the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA).
AFCA attends community townhalls for people affected by recent storms and floods in NSW and Queensland

AFCA decision makers and case managers attended a series of community forums in flood-affected areas in New South Wales, including Murwillumbah, Mullumbimby, Ballina, Lismore, and North Brisbane. The forums were arranged by the Insurance Council of Australia to help local policyholders connect with their insurers, and to help explain the insurance claims process.
New funding model comes into effect on 1 July 2022

AFCA’s new funding model will come into effect on 1 July 2022. The new fee structure, including the introduction of five free complaints, will apply to complaints closed from 1 July 2022 (excluding legacy complaints).
